Oil Tycoon! fishing guide
Fishing in Oil Tycoon! is a five-fish side run at Mr. Fishley's spot, with a leaderboard tracking who pulls the best sets.
How the run works
- Find Mr. Fishley — he sits at the water side of the map (see the map page).
- Fish the five — the spot runs a fixed set of five per attempt: "we got all five, that was easy."
- Deposit the fish — the catch goes into the collection point behind you; the fishleys stack.
- Check the leaderboard — the fishing leaderboard is a separate board from the time trial.
Why bother
- Small but steady side income while the main line runs itself.
- The Jack? race and flower secret are in the same region — one trip covers three objectives.
- Leaderboard position is visible to the whole server.
Mr. Fishley himself
An NPC, not a menu: he stands at the spot and the interaction starts the run. He does not sell anything — no container, no hints. If you were expecting a shop, it is Miguel you want (NPC locations).
The five fish
Mr. Fishley's leaderboard runs on five fish. They are not equally common — the run is short enough that you can learn the distribution in a few visits, and the leaderboard resets the comparison rather than your progress.
| Step | What you do | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Find Mr. Fishley | He sits at the fishing spot away from your plot | Check the NPC page if you have not met him |
| 2. Fish the five | Cast at his spot until each fish is landed | Rarer fish take longer; do not leave mid-run |
| 3. Deposit | Hand the catch in to him | Undeposited fish do not count |
| 4. Check the leaderboard | See where you sit against the server | It compares this run, not lifetime totals |
Why bother
The fishing spot is the calmest of the side activities: no cost, no loss, no gate. It exists for three reasons — a badge for completionists, a break from the line when the factory is balanced, and a small income stream that runs while you would otherwise be idle. The money guide files it under the small-and-free route.
Mr. Fishley himself
Mr. Fishley is one of the named NPCs scattered around the map. He is not part of the ending path and does not gate anything — he runs his spot and his leaderboard, and that is the whole interaction. Meeting him counts toward the map sweep described on the map page, which puts the fishing spot last on the loop so you pass it on the way home.
Learning the spot
Fishing is the stillest activity in the game, which makes it the easiest to systematise: fixed spot, fixed five fish, fixed hand-in. The run is short enough to learn in a handful of visits, and because there is no cost to cast, a failed attempt costs nothing but the seconds.
| Phase | Time | What you learn |
|---|---|---|
| First visits | A few runs | Which fish appear when, and how long casts take |
| Deposit discipline | Constant | Undeposited fish count for nothing — hand in every run |
| Leaderboard check | After each sweep | Where you stand on the server, not lifetime |
The five fish as a checklist
Treat the five as a list rather than a haul: once you can name all five from memory, the activity is solved and the only remaining question is how fast the leaderboard resets. The money guide files fishing under the small-and-free income route — real, but an order of magnitude below the main line — so the reason to finish it is the exploration set, not the cash.
Why it pairs with the map sweep
Fishing sits at one end of the map route, deliberately past the other secrets. Players who sweep regions in order collect the fish on the way back to the plot, which turns a side activity into part of one loop instead of a separate trip. The pairing matters more than the mechanics: it is the difference between five short detours and a single tour of the map.
