How to collect oil in Oil Tycoon!

Oil collection in Oil Tycoon! has three container tiers — cup, barrel and the collection pit — and one rule: the ground fills the pit for free, so your only job is moving what is there.

The three containers

CupStarting itemSmallFine for the first minutes only

Collection pitPlot built-inLargeFills on its own — never empty it manually

How collection actually runs

  1. Oil pushes up out of the ground.
  2. It lands in the collection pit or your container.
  3. Droppers and conveyors carry it to the first processing step.
  4. Workers take over once hired — the well worker is the collection hire.

How much each container holds

The three containers are not cosmetic variants — they sit at different points in the handoff and fail differently:

ContainerPositionTypical symptom when it fails
CupFirst hop out of the pitGround dry on your stretch, everything downstream starved
MugMid-route transferItems piling mid-line while the pit still has oil
Collection pitThe reservoir itselfPit full, sell point idle — the classic stall

Making collection faster

Collection speed is bounded by the slowest handoff, not by how fast oil appears. Three adjustments, in the order they pay:

  1. Shorten the first hop. A cup carrying across half the plot caps everything after it.
  2. Add carriers only where a gap exists. Two carriers on a segment that already flows change nothing; one carrier on an empty segment can double the line.
  3. Let the pit breathe. A pit at 100% is not "more oil" — it is oil that cannot move. If the pit pegs full, the problem is downstream of it, always.

Collection problems versus processing problems

Tell them apart with one question: is the pit full or empty?

  • Pit full, money flat — collection is fine; the line after it is not. Go to production chain debugging order.
  • Pit empty, line idle — collection itself. Check the handoff first, then whether extraction is even running (the upgrades list shows what raises extraction).
  • Pit healthy, money healthy — leave it alone. This is the state the beginner guide tells you to reach before you explore.

FAQ

What are the three containers in Oil Tycoon!?

The cup, the mug and the collection pit. They sit at different points on the route, and each one fails differently when the line backs up.

My pit is full but I am not earning — what is wrong?

A full pit with an idle sell point means collection is outpacing sale. Empty or extend the route downstream before buying more collectors.
